Rolling Stone reported today that Cee-Lo has unleashed the new video for his viral hit “Fuck You” (and not “Forget You.”). The retro clip, equal parts Glee and Grease, follows Cee-Lo’s journey from a lovelorn nerd to a “lady killer.” The new official video of Cee-Lo’s Fuck You is on YouTube. You can also see all the lyrics to the song on YouTube.
This fantastic song is going viral because it’s awesome and it CAN’T GET RADIO PLAY. So, for whoever says you can’t have a hit with radio promotion well — ah — fuck you. God, my mom (who insisted that I go to law school) would be so embarrassed by my last comment. Well, oh you know.
There is a bottom line here that is a big take-away for independent musicians and the managers and professionals that serve them. That bottom line is that “a hit song changes all the rules.” For you artists out there, be brave and do new things, different things, unique things. Do YOUR thing. If it is truly cool and truly different you can make something happen.
It’s up to you. Go do it. And, to those who doubt you well — you know.
